How Often Should I Rotate My Tires?

Our team recommends rotating your tires every 6 months, or 5,000 - 7,500 miles, but that might vary depending on your driving habits and various road conditions. You can find your specific recommendations in the owner’s manual of your vehicle. tire rotation

Tires wear differently depending on their location and your vehicle’s drivetrain.

Tire rotation plays an important role in prolonging the lifetime of your tires and improving performance. The team at United Tire & Service of Pennsylvania is dedicated to educating our customers on preventive maintenance and how it can help perpetuate the life of your vehicle, saving you money on costly repairs down the line.

One simple preventative measure you can take is having your tires rotated regularly to avoid blowouts caused by severe tread wear. Not only would this be dangerous for you and other drivers, but replacing your tires unexpectedly can be an inconvenient and expensive purchase.

What does it mean to have your tires rotated?

When you come in to any of our 13 conveniently located United Tire & Service auto shops, our team of friendly, highly trained technicians will remove each tire and wheel from your vehicle and reinstall it at a different position on your vehicle, typically the front two tires to the rear, and the rear tires to the front. This ensures that all 4 of your tires are wearing evenly and lasting longer.

Front-Wheel Drive tire rotation

The tires on front-wheel-drive vehicles wear faster than the rear tires because the tires transfer power to the road and steer the vehicle. When rotating the tires on a FWD vehicle, the front two tires should be swapped with the rear tires.

Rear-Wheel Drive

The opposite of FWD tires, the tires on a rear-wheel-drive vehicle wear faster on the rear axle. Rear-wheel-drive vehicles provide a more balances wear since the rear tires deliver the power, while the front tires control the steering. When rotating the tires on an RWD vehicle, the front tires and rear tires should be swapped.

All-Wheel Drive

All-wheel or four-wheel-drive vehicles have the strongest encouragement for tire rotation to ensure even wear. Most manufacturers recommend the tread depth be kept above 2/32 of an inch for the safest grip on the roads. When rotating AWD tires, the front right will go to the left rear, the front left will go to the right rear, and the two rear tires will move to the front without switching sides.
