Different Types of Wheel Alignment

A wheel alignment adjusts your car’s suspension system that connects the vehicle to the wheels. The suspension system is made up of springs, bushings, tie rods, and other components that are designed to absorb bumps, give a smooth ride, and make sure the car responds well to the driver. A wheel alignment machine is used to correct the alignment of your vehicle. Our mechanics will adjust the angles of the wheels, so they’re set exactly to the car manufacturer’s specifications.Wheel Alignment in Pennsylvania

All new cars have perfect alignment to make sure the vehicle handles and brakes at its optimum, but over time, with everyday driving, potholes, and speedbumps, your vehicle loses alignment. Proper wheel alignment is very important when it comes to protecting your vehicle, your tires, and the people inside. United Tire & Service offers top-notch wheel alignment service at many convenient locations across Pennsylvania.

Signs of Misalignment

A hard hit on a pothole or curb can be enough to jolt a wheel out of alignment. Tire services such as wheel alignment, tire rotation, tire balancing, suspension repair and alignment services are all geared towards keeping your vehicle safe and your tires healthy. Some obvious signs of misalignment are:

  • A crooked steering wheel while driving down a straight road
  • The vehicle pulls to either the right or left side
  • Your tires start to wear rapidly and/or unevenly
  • Your tires squeal as you accelerate or turn

Types of Wheel Alignment

Thrust Angle Alignment: A thrust angle alignment is done by aligning the front wheels of your car to the rear axle. The purpose of the thrust angle is to determine if the rear axle is lined up with the center of the vehicle, as well as the front axle. Mismatch alignment can create undue stress on your car’s suspension system and wheels, as well as reduce power.

Two-Wheel Alignment, or Front-End Alignment: The two front wheels are aligned straight toward the geometric center of the vehicle, and the rear wheels and thrust direction are left alone. Depending on what type of car you have, a two-wheel alignment may be all you need.

Four-Wheel Alignment: Wheel sensors are attached to all four wheels. The four-wheel alignment provides the most accurate wheel alignment. All four wheels on both axles are adjusted so they are parallel to each other, the ground, and the thrust angle of the car.
