Senior year of high school is an exciting time for everyone—prom, graduation, anticipation of college, and of course, getting to drive to school yourself! Newly-licensed, inexperienced teen drivers will take over the road when the school year starts, and according to National Safety Council, teen crashes skyrocket in September.
Follow this checklist to ensure a safe and fun senior year.
✓ Prepare the night before—set an alarm clock, pack your lunch, plan your outfit
✓ Leave early and don’t rush
✓ Buckle up
✓ Watch out for pedestrians, such as kids walking on the sidewalk, busses, and cars stopped for drop off
✓ Slow down—be aware of school zones and significantly decrease your speed
✓ Put away your phone—never text and drive
✓ Stay away from screens and earbuds
✓ Only have one passenger—stay focused and avoid loud chatter and distractions
✓ Share the road with school buses—never pass a bus that is loading or unloading children
✓ Keep your distance—allow a greater following distance behind a bus
✓ Memorize bus routes—avoid them for a faster and smoother ride
