Back-to-School Driving Checklist for New Drivers

Senior year of high school is an exciting time for everyone—prom, graduation, anticipation of college, and of course, getting to drive to school yourself! Newly-licensed, inexperienced teen drivers will take over the road when the school year starts, and according to National Safety Council, teen crashes skyrocket in September.

Back to School Vehicle Check List - United Tire & Service in PennsylvaniaFollow this checklist to ensure a safe and fun senior year.

✓ Prepare the night before—set an alarm clock, pack your lunch, plan your outfit

✓ Leave early and don’t rush

✓ Buckle up

✓ Watch out for pedestrians, such as kids walking on the sidewalk, busses, and cars stopped for drop off

✓ Slow down—be aware of school zones and significantly decrease your speed

✓ Put away your phone—never text and drive

✓ Stay away from screens and earbuds

✓ Only have one passenger—stay focused and avoid loud chatter and distractions

✓ Share the road with school buses—never pass a bus that is loading or unloading children

✓ Keep your distance—allow a greater following distance behind a bus

✓ Memorize bus routes—avoid them for a faster and smoother ride

✓ BE SMART!

We hope your senior year will be unforgettable (for the right reasons!)
