One of the greatest challenges that drivers face in the summer is knowing the perfect way to keep their cars cool. While it might seem like a tough task, it’s not an impossible one. Learn these simple air conditioning tricks for having a comfortable and relaxing summer.
This seems a little obvious, but it’s the most effective. If you can’t find the lucky spot, don’t worry—look around for buildings and trees. If the nearby spot is sunlit in the morning then most likely it will be shaded in the afternoon—by the time you leave the office, your car will be cooled down. If you park in an open space, cover your windows with a windshield shade to reduce the greenhouse effect. Also, don’t forget to leave your windows slightly down to reduce heat buildup inside your car.
Once you get in the car, don’t waste time and gas waiting for it to cool down. When the car is driving and engine turning, the air compressor runs faster, and air conditioning works better. If the car is really hot on the inside, turn up the fan and open the rear windows for 10-20 seconds to push the hot air out of the cabin. Opening the front windows will only move the hot, stagnant air to the back of the car.
How many times have you heard the passengers in the back complaining that it’s too hot, while up front it might as well be the North Pole? This is most likely due to the recirculation mode. Recirculation Mode pulls the air from the front of the cabin back through the system. This leaves everyone up front cold, while the air in the back remains stale and hot. Instead, try facing the air conditioning onto the windows and not inside the car. Cool windows will decrease the temperature inside the car much faster.
Dirty filters restrict optimal airflow. If you have a newer car, you might be in luck. Many modern cars have filters behind the glove compartment, allowing you to save money replacing it yourself if you see a lot of dirt gathered up. Some cars have a more complex air conditioning placement, where the dashboard must be removed to reach it.
And last, but not least…keep your car well maintained. It’s time to visit your local United Tire if you see that your air conditioner
