Getting your Car Ready for Spring Showers

We’re sure you’ve heard the age-old saying, “April showers bring May flowers”, and it’s very true! Since we all know that springtime typically brings rain, it’s a good idea to ensure your car is prepared for the wet roads ahead. How exactly do you prepare for wet roads, you ask? Springtime Rain PennsylvaniaIt’s simple! Here are a few things you can do to make sure you stay safe while driving in the slick conditions:

Wiper blades: After a long winter, it’s likely that your wiper blades are marred. It’s a good idea to go ahead and get a fresh pair of wiper blades for springtime rain. Wiper blades are inexpensive, easy to install, and will make a world of difference during a rainstorm.

Detail your vehicle:  Spring cleaning isn’t just for your house! After a winter full of ice, snow, and road salt, your car is probably itching to be detailed. Give your car a little TLC with a wash and wax, and be sure to pay extra attention while cleaning the undercarriage. Applying some Rain-X to your windshield while detailing is a great way to get your car ready for wet weather.

Tire pressure: Winter weather is especially hard on your vehicle, tires included. The cold temperatures can deflate your tires so be sure to check your air pressure. Driving on tires that are not properly inflated is especially dangerous on wet roads.

Tire tread: Poor tire tread = poor handling. Good tire tread will help prevent your vehicle from slipping and sliding on wet roads. Use the penny test to check your tire tread by sticking a penny in the tread with Lincoln’s head upside down and facing you. If part of the head is covered, you’re okay, but if you can see all of Lincoln’s head, it’s time for new tires.

Along with the maintenance items mentioned above, it’s also a good time to have your tires rotated and your wheels aligned. Spring is a season of new beginnings, so why not freshen up your car with some much-needed maintenance? At United Tire and Service, we’re happy to help you get all the spring-maintenance items checked off your to-do list. Give us a call, stop by one of our convenient locations, or schedule an appointment online today.
