Serpentine Belt vs Timing Belt

It is important to compare serpentine belt vs timing belt parts so that you know the function of each, as both of these belts are vital parts of your car. Contrary to popular belief, serpentine belts and timing belts are not the same parts. While the belts work in a similar way, they are part of different systems.

As previously mentioned, serpentine belts and timing belts are not the same thing. However, they do have some important similarities. Firstly, both of these belts are durable but can break or wear out after many thousands of miles. Also, both of these belts power components connected to the engine

What's the difference between a serpentine belt and a timing belt?

While serpentine belts and timing belts do have some similarities, they are actually quite different in both form and function. First, serpentine belts and timing belts are made out of different materials. Serpentine belts do not have to be as sturdy as timing belts. This is why serpentine belts are made out of rubber, while timing belts are made out of heavy-duty synthetic materials. Timing belts can be made of either neoprene or polyurethane.

Serpentine belts and timing belts are also located in different parts of the vehicle. Serpentine belts are located in front of the engine. If you pop your hood, you will be able to see a black rubber belt that winds around several mechanisms in front of the engine. This is the serpentine belt. While the serpentine belt is clearly visible, the timing belt is not visible. It is actually located behind the engine.

One of the most significant differences between serpentine belts and timing belts is the replacement process for each belt. Serpentine belts are very easy to replace because it is easy for a mechanic to access the belt. This also means that serpentine belt replacement is a very affordable service. On the other hand, timing belts are more difficult to replace because they are harder to access.

Timing belts are connected to the crankshaft, which is located behind the engine. The crankshaft then turns the camshaft, which causes the engine's valves to open and close. Timing belts have "teeth" on the belt, which helps the belt turn the crankshaft more effectively. Timing belts are similar in every car, although the "pitch" might be different. The pitch is the space between the teeth.

Timing belts are sturdy and last for a long time, but they can break. If your timing belt is bad, you will probably notice that your check engine light is on. Your engine may rev up and down seemingly at random. Also, you may notice low oil pressure. If your car has these symptoms, take it to your local United Tire as soon as possible. If you try to continue driving when your car's timing belt has gone bad, you may do serious damage to your engine.

Serpentine belts

Serpentine belts are connected to your vehicle's air conditioning system, power steering, and alternator. The belt powers these systems. A bad serpentine belt may start screeching. If your serpentine belt is starting to wear out, you may notice small cracks in the belt if you look closely. Serpentine belts need to be replaced every 60,000 miles or so. If you hear a screeching noise from your engine bay or you notice small cracks in your serpentine belt, please contact us. We can quickly and easily replace your serpentine belt.
